The Busan Museum of Art in South
Korea has opened an exhibition on Vietnamese modern art with a collection of 100paintings,
including by some of the country’s most renowned names.
On display are oil paintings,
lacquer, and carved wood works drawn from 374 paintings in a
collection donated to the museum by Japanese collectors Itoh Toyokichi and Itoh
Tamiko.
The exhibition, titled “Houei
Collection Special: Modern Art of Vietnam,” opened March 6 and comprises two
sections.
The first, to conclude on April
25, features works reflecting the development of Vietnam’s modern art by 25
artists.
The paintings, which include
some by famous artists like Duong Bich Lien, Nguyen Gia Tri, and Nguyen Sang,
are described as a harmonious combination of Vietnam’s traditional arts and
modern graphic arts from the west.
The second section, to be held
from May 1 to July 11, will focus on works by 10 representative artists like Tu Duyen, Linh Chi, and Luu
Van Sin.
Entrance tickets to the museum
cost 700 won (61 US cents).
Busan is South Korea’s second
largest city after Seoul.
